DOWNLOAD 2010 EARMARKS FILE FOR ADDITIONAL ANALYSIS
This file is in CSV (comma delimited) format. It is provided for purposes of
performing a more robust analysis of the data and can be imported into almost
any database model or spreadsheet program.
The total number of rows in the CSV file is greater than the total number of earmarks
because the file contains 1) one 'E' record per earmark plus 2) one or more 'S' records
for the earmark.s sponsors (each sponsor is listed on a separate row). The 'RECORD_TYPE'
field (in Column "CB" in the CSV) contains the 'E' and 'S' values indicating the type of
record a given line represents. 'E' records contain no sponsor data; 'S' records contain
sponsor data.
Earmark dollar totals that match those displayed on www.earmarks.gov can be derived by
summing stage (House, Senate, Conference) funding amounts of the "E" records. Earmark
count totals that match those displayed on www.earmarks.gov can be derived by counting
stage 'CTTN_SOURCE_NAME' of the "E" records.
Some of the other key fields include the earmark "short description", a short summary
of the earmark, and the "earmark ID," a unique identifier for that earmark.
The legal citation, if included in the database as a PDF file, will not be included in the
downloaded CSV file. To see the PDF file, use the links on this website. The Congressional
stage (e.g. House Committee, House Floor, etc.) citation source method IDs are the keys
for accessing the PDF files on the website.
