Citation Excerpt: Sec. 2343. GENERAL AUTHORITY. (a) AUTHORITY. The Secretary is authorized to awards grants to, or enter into contracts with - (1) the Center for Civic Education, to carry out civic education activities under sections 2344 and 2345. FY 2008 Appropriations Joint Explanatory Statement: Within the funds provided for the Civic Education program, the amended bill includes $20,413,000 for the We the People programs, including $2,950,000 to continue the comprehensive program to improve public knowledge, understanding, and support of American democratic institutions, which is a cooperative project among the Center for Civic Education, the Center on Congress at Indiana University, and the Trust for Representative Democracy at the National Conference of State Legislatures.
