Description: The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress. The Grambling State University will strengthen the training of students and faculty in the forensic analysis undergraduate training program through equipment acquisition and course material enhancements. The goals of the project are to: provide a curriculum program aligned with the educational guidelines of the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission; collaborate with law enforcement agencies and crime laboratories; purchase instruments and materials for adequate training in crime scene evidence; and teach and research activities through faculty and student development opportunities. The Grambling State University will purchase equipment to support the high quality level of training required in preparing a 21st century workforce of well trained individuals in forensic chemistry.
