From here, you can find information on earmarks in the appropriations bills for fiscal year 2008. Information on these earmarks was first published in July, 2008. After 2008 fiscal year end, agencies updated the previously published earmark information to include additional information such as recipient and beneficiary data and correct any previously published errors.
The recipient listed in the database may not in all cases represent the ultimate beneficiary of the earmark.
In fiscal year 2008, there were 11,523 earmarks totaling $16,641,692,000 The "# of Earmarks in State" will not sum to the total number of earmarks, as some earmarks have recipients/beneficiaries in more than one State. Earmarks are allocated to States based on recipient/beneficiary State. If an earmark has recipients/beneficiaries in more than one State, it will be listed under each State.
Some earmarks benefit more than one State, but the amount cannot be objectively divided by State. In these cases, the earmark is reported under "Multiple States," but is not reflected in the totals of the individual States.
Click on the state to view the agencies with earmark recipients in that State.
